Cultural Ink
Cultural Ink is a Global Majority Writing Collective, welcoming writers of all experience levels and interests.
Cultural Ink was founded by Claire Beerjeraz, to build a community of writers from the Global Majority in Merseyside. The collective provides an affinity space to these writers, alongside the facilitation of writing exercises, and an opportunity to discuss their work with the community.

Global Majority
For those who are unfamiliar, global majority is a collective term for people of Indigenous, African, Asian or Latin American Descent, including people of mixed heritage backgrounds.
Previously, organisations might have used other terms to describe members of the global majority, such as ‘ethnic minority’. People of Indigenous, African, Asian or Latin American Descent make up around 85% of the world’s global population. As such, we believe that global majority is a more factually correct descriptor for our community.
As writers, we understand the power of language. Research suggests that the language we use around marginalised communities is very influential, with evidence indicating that terms and descriptors can have an impact on community members’ aspirations. We find global majority to be an empowering term, which we hope supports us in our aim to build a creatively charged and inspiring space.
Cultural Ink is run as an affinity space (learn more about this below) for writers within our community. Because of this, we are unable to welcome anybody into these sessions who is not a member of the Global Majority.

Affinity spaces
Our sessions are held as an affinity space to sync up with our goals of creating a safe and empowering space.
“The purpose of an affinity space is to provide a positive, affirming environment for groups, often those who feel marginalised, to come together and engage in open and honest dialogues.”
In our context:
An affinity space is an environment created by the global majority, for the global majority.
We believe that providing a space in this way can allow creative writing to be explored and shared in a safe and fluid way for individuals who may not necessarily have a regular space to explore this.
